Shape Shifting for the Vote. How can a presidential candidate change his rhetoric on a variety of issues on a daily basis and still seem trustworthy enough to become President? Mitt Romney has mastered this ability to modify his policy stance to suit the moment and still convince half the electorate to support him.

The inconsistent statements made by this man are so frequent and so confusing (to me at least), that he must be a human chameleon or a master shape shifter. I would need to write a book to list all the flip flops that Romney has demonstrated since he won the Republican nomination for president. For brevity's sake, I will use the most recent example of his change-of-heart to garner votes. Hurricane Sandy is considered an historic storm that is creating havoc on the eastern shore of the United States.

When questioned during the Republican primary regarding the cutting of funding for government programs (such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency, otherwise known as FEMA), he was adamant in his response. Not only should FEMA be eliminated, but ideally, FEMA or its replacement should be managed by and services administered by the private sector. He stated that it is immoral to spend money in this fashion and leave the debt to our children.

Now, let's jump forward to present day. As the storm is battering the east coast today and threatens to devastate certain areas (such as Lower Manhattan), Governor Romney states that, of course, we shouldn't get rid of FEMA.

It amazes and angers me that we may have a president whose principles are compromised so easily in order to win people's vote. Once in office, how will he respond to the pressure of the Tea Party, as well as his corporate donors with regard to establishing policy that is supposed to be best for all Americans?
