The Histrionics of Hurricane Donald. Donald Trump has to be the world's biggest egomaniac. His latest "bombshell" stunt involving "T & A" (transcripts and applications) and the President of the United States is a testament to this claim.
Mr. Trump challenged the President to release his collegiate academic records (applications and transcripts) as well as his passport applications. According to the challenge, if President Obama produced all of these records (to Trump's satisfaction) by a specified time, which happened to be Halloween and also prior to the upcoming presidential election, Mr. Trump would donate five million dollars to the charity of President Obama's choice. When the President seemingly ignored his publicity stunt, continuing with the campaign and then with the business of bringing together resources for the recovery from an historic natural disaster of epic proportions, Trump extended the deadline another 19 hours, making it the day after Halloween. Consequently, "The Donald" is now being used as fodder for late night comedians … and rightly so.
It seems like Mr. Trump would offer the five million dollars to the Hurricane Sandy relief fund, which would bring him more public recognition than his continual siege on Barack Obama's eligibility to be the current President, and it would be recognition of a positive nature. As he sits atop one of his Trump Towers in Jersey City or Manhattan, one would think the devastation below or around him might have merited his attention. Does he have his nose pointed too high in the air to look down on and take notice of the less fortunate segments of society or, in this case, those who are in desperate need of immediate aid? Apparently he deems it his prerogative to disregard them, since he feels he built his empire all by himself, and focus on trying to convene a media circus around himself and his preposterous claims.
Mr. Trump has prospered in business and consequently is lucky to be able to use other people's money so he can have a lavish lifestyle. How many average Americans who have clean credit histories still find it difficult to get a loan? Yet Donald Trump who, through his corporation, has filed for bankruptcy at least five times, is able to get his cronies to continue to lend him money. Since banks and bond holders lost millions from these bankruptcies, the 'trickle-down effect' certainly has impacted the rest of us as well as the government. The income taxes collected by the U.S. Government has been less, since these bondholders, left holding the bag, were able to use the losses they incurred to lower their tax burden.
It really angers me when 'The Donald' seems to think he is more important than a schoolteacher, a firefighter, and even the President of the United States, just because he has more money. It seems almost that Trump believes, when he speaks, even the President of the United States should jump.
